TONY SCULLION NAMED CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF MEMORY PHARMACEUTICALS

Montvale, NJ, September 5, 2001 -- Memory Pharmaceuticals Corp., a privately held neuropharmaceutical drug development company working in the area of learning and memory disorders associated with aging and a number of diseases and conditions, announced today the appointment of Tony Scullion as its Chief Executive Officer. The company is developing a diverse pipeline of cognition enhancers, or memory-enhancing drugs, using its proprietary technology platform, which is based on intellectual property discovered by Nobel Laureate, Eric Kandel, M.D., the scientific founder of the company.

"Tony brings more than 25 years of broad managerial experience in the global pharmaceutical industry to Memory Pharmaceuticals," said Dr. Axel Unterbeck, Memory Pharmaceuticals President and Chief Scientific Officer. "He will be instrumental in leading the company's novel line of drug discovery and development programs through commercialization."

Prior to joining Memory Pharmaceuticals, Mr. Scullion was Vice President and Head of Global Business Development at Glaxo Wellcome plc, where he was responsible for Corporate in-licensing, out-licensing and alliances with divisional functions based in the United States and the United Kingdom. While heading Global Business Development at Glaxo Wellcome, he was appointed to the Management Committee, which was responsible for the operational management of the Company. Prior to joining Glaxo Wellcome, Mr. Scullion was employed by Pfizer Inc., where he held senior marketing, strategic and operational positions with assignments in the United Kingdom, Asia and the United States Headquarters. Mr. Scullion received his B.Sc. in Physiology and his M.Sc. in Pharmacology at the University of London.
